to offer pork from heritage Berkshire hogs.

Rockin D Hogs

​

We are currently transitioning to Berkshire hogs, a heritage breed well-known for its high-quality meat. Berkshire pork is prized for juiciness, flavor and tenderness. It is pink-hued and heavily marbled, making it delicious, whether braised, smoked, brined, or grilled.

 

Our hogs live in an outdoor facility with plenty of sunshine, room to roam, and an optional shelter in the event of inclement weather. We like to keep their pens neat and tidy, which helps both the hogs and the farmers to stay clean and healthy.

Raising hogs in an uncrowded, low-stress environment also keeps them calm, in turn improving the flavor.

Our hogs eat grain that we grow ourselves. They are free of synthetic hormones and antibiotics.

When our hogs reach market weight, we take them to the Peabody Sausage House, a small-scale butcher only a few miles away. The short distance to the processor also contributes to their low stress level. 

Rockin D Pork

On average, about 57% of a hog makes it from the pen to the pan. For example, a 270-pound live hog typically has a hanging weight of 180 pounds and yields 150 pounds of meat. If you buy a half or whole hog, you have the chance to decide which cuts and sausages you will receive. If you desire, we can connect you with a processor, so you can discuss specifics such as bacon, sausage, or organ meats. Otherwise, you will receive a standard selection of chops, bacon, ham, shoulder, liver, heart, ribs, hocks, sausage (breakfast, old fashioned, sage, Italian, or chorizo).
