In addition to producing grass-fed beef, the Janzens are collaborating with farm operator Norm Oeding to grow and sell our own locally grown, certified organic whole grain that is also freshly milled on-farm at Janzen Family Farms. It is then baked locally into various bread products, including whole-grain bread, raisin bread, hamburger buns and dinner rolls.
We are really excited to offer you the chance to get two of your main staple foods—bread (or flour) and meat—from one local source. You can find it at farmers markets, in stores, on-farm, online and at cafés/restaurants. (See below for details.)
LOCALLY GROWN, FRESHLY MILLED ORGANIC FLOUR
The grain we grow for human consumption is hard white winter wheat and hard red winter wheat. We currently use certified organic grain from Norm’s family farm Spring Creek Ranch in Kingman County, as well as from a few other local certified organic producers in central Kansas, whom we know and trust. The cropland at Janzen Family Farms is officially in transition to certified organic, and we hope to mill and sell our first JFF certified organic wheat next year (2010).

MICROMILL AT JANZEN FAMILY FARMS
In summer of 2008, we renovated one of the farm buildings at Janzen Family Farms to house a Meadows 8-inch stone micromill, which Norm had previously operated in Kingman County. Having passed our inspection from the State of Kansas, we now mill fresh flour at JFF. You can even pick up your freshly milled flour on-farm and visit our mill, now called “Henry Creek Flour Mill” after the creek that runs through our land. (It's best to call to make sure we're around to facilitate your delivery.)

WHAT’S AVAILABLE? We at JFF produce three main types of grain products: · organic wheat berries (whole and cracked), · organic flour (freshly stone-milled), and · bread produced with organic whole grain flour (sold under the label “Little Red Hen Bakery”).
Norm Oeding, JFF farm manager, developed the brand names and products “Norm’s Flour” and “Little Red Hen Bakery” prior to his employment with JFF, and he is now continuing with the Janzens at JFF. Together, we aim to supply our customers with top-quality, certified organic grain products, grown and freshly stone-milled right here in central Kansas. The mill at JFF is called “Henry Creek Flour Mill.”
